Rainy Day

Today is a rainy day after a lot of hot sunny days, perfect for drinking a cup of coffee and writing a new post.  My sister is pregnant with a girl (!!!!) and I'm so excited to be an aunt.  She is due in September.  She's having a baby shower in July, so I'm going out to Seattle for that.  I don't know if my mom is going to go, she seems to think she can't afford it. . . But the baby shower is the weekend after my friends Benito and Larra's wedding in Ann Arbor, so unfortunately Norberto and I won't be able to go to that.  People are growing up! It's crazy that my sister is having a baby.  I'm really excited for my parents to be grandparents as well! I wish we could go to the wedding but I can't take two weekends off from work in a row.

I also got a second job at the Chicago Art and Design Center.  So far I've taught two birthday parties for little girls to learn how to paint with acrylics.  It's super fun and really gratifying.  On Sunday this little boy who is apparently usually really hyperactive painted a really awesome parrot, and his parents were so impressed.  That made me feel good.

I have a couple new paintings, Enjoy!

New Paintings

The weather has been really crappy lately.  Or, we'll have one nice, sunny day, randomly thrown into a week of dull, rainy grays in the fifties.  This kind of makes my head feel heavy.  Or maybe I just need some coffee.  I'm taking my mom out for lunch today for Mothers Day (a bit early, Mothers Day is on Saturday and today is Wednesday) then we're going to get pedicures.  Such an awesome mother-daughter activity day.

What else is new: Lately I've been doing ceramics with old ladies and arts and crafts with homeless ladies.  Both are very fun.  The ceramics class I'm actually in, and the arts and crafts I volunteer for at Sarah's Circle.  Last week we made some collages, jewelry, and fans and this week we're making dream-catchers.  The ceramics class is a throwing class, basically, but I'm getting inspired to combine thrown pots with hand-built stuff added on and kind of working within the same theme as some of my paintings.  The only problem is I don't know if I can technically pull this stuff off.  If I can and do, pictures to come.  Not for a while, as I haven't even made this stuff yet.  Then it has to dry, get bisque-fired, then glaze-fired.  Such a long, arduous process.

Anyway, I have some new paintings!
Enjoy.
