Direction?

Lately I've felt it very easy to focus on goals and projects I'm working on.  It feels great, and I've actually accomplished some stuff.  I'm wondering if this has something to do with being done with school and still not having a very clear idea of my long term goals.  Which bothers me.  But then I keep asking myself, why do I need a Five-year plan or whatever?  As long as I am doing what I want to be doing now, why do I need to be so obsessed with my future?

I have the scholarly type parents who have drilled it into my head that happiness in life is achieved by having lots of education and a successful career.  I thought I was going down that path for a bit when I wanted to get a doctorate and be an archaeologist or historian, but recently I've realized that those are not my plans, but my parents plans for me.  I think I do want to be a teacher of some sort, but I don't want to be in school for the next ten years then be trapped in the academia bubble forever.  I've kind of gotten a taste of that bubble and it's scary.

I love making art and I love interacting with all different types of people.  I also love learning and really geeky stuff (like a book I recently read on the history of the Silk Road) but you don't have to be in school for that.  I guess I'm just going to roll with this for a while.  Hopefully I won't get burned out anytime soon.

Technical Difficulties

As I have said before, I am not a very computer-savvy person.  This applies to the internet, figuring out how to do things on the computer itself, social media, etc.  I'm trying to get better.  The images of the paintings I posted earlier are unedited and not very good, because after I edited them they were too huge to upload onto the internet.  I used to know how to do all of this using photoshop, but I refuse to put that beast back on my computer, and am instead trying to figure out alternative methods.

Here is a new one, and hopefully looks better than the others:

The Family Tree
16x20"
Acrylic on Canvas
These are the renditions of many of the ancestors to Homo sapien.  Starting with ourselves and working backwards in time, those others included are Archaic Homo sapien, Homo neanderthalensis, Homo erectus, Homo habilus, Australopithecus robustus, Austalopithecus boisei, Australopithecus africanus, Proconsul africanus, and Aegyptopithecus.  The background is a series of bone cells. (This was a happy accident- I was bored with how the background was originally, so I just started painting concentric circles.  My friend came over and pointed out that they look like bone cells- perfect!)

Little Doozy

I made this little guy for my friend Eliza for her birthday.  She really likes emeralds.  It's only 4x5".  I liked it a lot so I've since then painted a slightly larger version, with a friend, the ruby. Pictures to come.

On a side note I went to Michaels today and the guy who checked me out told me that

A. His breath really stank because
B. He got too wasted at the bar last night then
C. Woke up next to a stranger this morning.

I think we need this guy to come work at my place.  Lolz.

First Post Ever!

I'm not a very internet savvy person, so this is all very new for me.  I don't tweet, and I barely use facebook.  But!  This is where I will post my art, as well as other various information and thoughts.  Enjoy.
